SUBJ: Amendment to the Constitution: Expanding Opportunities to Serve the Campus Community
DISPOSITION: To the Nominations and Elections Committee for submission to the Voting Faculty for approval by secret mail ballot; upon approval, to the Faculty for information and to the presiding officer for implementation
Whereas, many dedicated faculty members are precluded from serving in the Fort Wayne Senate due to apportionment issues; and
Whereas, the operation and scope of the Fort Wayne Senate are paramount issues at IPFW;
Be It Resolved, That the Senate approve the attached amendment to the Constitution; and
Be It Further Resolved, That this amendment become effective immediately after ratification by the Voting Faculty.

VII. Governing Body: The Senate
A. Membership
Apportionment.
Senate membership shall be apportioned among the major academic units according
to the number of Voting Faculty comprising those units. One member shall be
allocated to each unit for every six Voting Faculty in that unit. In each
academic unit containing ten percent or more of the Voting Faculty, the chief
academic officer of the unit shall be allocated one of the unit’s Senate
seats. An additional eight senators, not subject to the apportionment
requirements listed, will be elected on a university-wide basis by voting
faculty. Eligibility of the additional eight senators is limited to tenured
faculty members and librarians only.
