SUBJ:              Metrics for DI Program

 

DISPOSITION:  To the Presiding Officer for implementation

 

 

Whereas, the University Resources Policy Committee was charged by the Fort Wayne Senate with developing metrics for the DI program; and,

 

Whereas, at its March 17, 2004 meeting the University Resources Policy Committee adopted metrics and a proposed reported procedure;

 

Be It Resolved, that the chancellor make an annual report to the Fort Wayne Senate in the fall semester of each academic year on DI athletics that will encompass, but not necessarily be limited to, the following:

 

            1)   Data in support of the fifteen metrics (see attached) developed by URPC

            2)   A review of the data in the annual EADA report prepared by the Chancellor’s office

            3)   A review of the financial data contained in the annual audit report prepared by an outside firm of IPFW’s DI program.

            4)   When available the NCAA athletics certification report (prepared once every ten years).

 

Be It Further Resolved, that the chancellor is requested to make the reports referenced in (2) and (3) available to any members of the Fort Wayne Senate who request a copy following his presentation.

Metrics

 

 

 1.

Percent of dollar amount of athletic scholarships funded from IPFW administered scholarship funds.

 2.

Percent of dollar amount of athletic scholarships funded from the Chancellor’s Merit Scholarship fund.

 3.

Fees per student used in support of DI (as reported in the annual EADA report divided by fall semester headcount).

 4.

Percent of total athletic budget funded by student fees.

 5.

Total dollar amount of allocated costs of coaching staff and support personnel to general fund.

 6.

Surplus or deficit in annual athletic budget as shown on the EADA report.

 7.

Sanctions.  How many “major infractions” an institution were assessed by the NCAA from 1992 to 2002.

 8.

Gender Equity.  Measures an institution’s progress in providing athletics opportunities to women.

 9.

Win/Loss.  Overall winning percentage in the various sports offered.

10.

Number of Sports Offered.  Includes intercollegiate varsity sports.

11.

Graduation Rate.*  Calculated over the 6-year cohort period, and compared to the institution’s graduate rate.

12.

Athletic Department’s GPA.

13.

Attendance at athletic events.

14.

Gate receipts.

15.

Make comparable institution data for reference in the case of some (all?) of the metrics, especially where such data is publicly reported and thus easily obtained.
