Subject:           Amendment to the Bylaws:  Composition of Senate Committees and Subcommittees

 

Disposition:    To the Presiding Officer for implementation

 

 

Whereas, the Fort Wayne Senate charged the Executive Committee of the Senate to periodically review the committee structure to encourage efficient faculty participation; and

 

Whereas, it is important to keep and improve the shared governance of IPFW between the administration and the faculty; and

 

Whereas, the Fort Wayne Senate shall represent primarily the opinion of the faculty of IPFW; and

 

Whereas, most of the recommendations from the Senate are formulated first by the Senate committees and subcommittees; and

 

Whereas, there are recommendations from Senate committees and subcommittees directly to the administration; and

 

Whereas, it is important to increase the faculty input in the decision making;

 

Be It Resolved, That Section 5, SENATE COMMITTEES AND SUBCOMMITTEES, of the Bylaws of the Senate be amended by (1) adding the words indicated in bold to paragraph 5.1.3; (2) inserting the paragraphs indicated in bold; and (3) renumbering the existing paragraphs to accommodate said insertions; and

 

Be It Further Resolved, That all Senate committees and subcommittees not meeting these criteria make recommendations to the Executive Committee by March 28, 2003.

 

 

5.1.3.   Members of subcommittees need not be members of the establishing committee or of the Senate.  Membership may include administrative, faculty, staff, and student representatives.

 

5.1.4.   Voting Faculty must comprise at least 2/3 of the voting membership of any committee or subcommittee.

 

5.1.5. The names of nominees proposed for any Senate committee or subcommittee ….
