The Basics
Grade 6-12 Regional Fair Eligibility

1) Educators participating in the regional fair register at the SEFI website www.sefireg.org
The Science Education Foundation of Indiana (SEFI) is the organization that oversees state-wide fair guidelines and maintains consistent standards for Regional Fairs. They administer the centralized registration website.

2) Project Eligibility

Projects that involve Humans, Animals, Bacteria, Yeast, DNA or other Pathogens Chemicals, Hazardous Substances, or Hazardous Equipment must be reviewed by the IPFW Scientific Review Committee BEFORE the student begins their project. This is called Pre-Experimentation Review. NOTE that students in grades 1-8 should not be doing bacterial studies of any kind and should not be using hazardous chemicals, devices, and/or activities.

3) Form Submission

Projects requiring Pre-Experimentation Review: Submit to IPFW by the 1/30/13 deadline
Junior Division : Pages 1 & 2 of the Junior Division Form
Senior Division : Required ISEF forms
The SRC Chair will make recommendations to ensure safe and proper project protocol. Forms will be returned and the student may conduct the experiment following the SRC Chair’s recommendations. Failure to do so may make the student ineligible to advance to the regional fair

Projects NOT requiring Pre-Experimentation Review:
Junior Division (gr. 6-8): Complete page 1 with teacher’s signature. Form is not mailed to IPFW until the advances to the regional fair
Senior Division (gr. 9-12): Complete ISEF Forms 1, 1A, 1B, and Research plan with required dates and signatures. These forms will not need to be submitted until you are registered for the regional fair.

4) Students who advance to the Regional Fair

ALL gr. 6-12 students that advance and plan to attend the Regional Fair must submit project forms for POST-Experimentation Review (done AFTER completing the experiment) by the March 8 registration deadline.
Junior Division Form(s) which includes the Research Plan and an Online Abstract
Senior Division ISEF Forms as required by your project and an Online Abstract
