Storage and Salvage Process at IPFW
Whenever your department is sending items to storage, salvage or discarding be sure to complete an Equipment Change in Status Form Also, if any item is considered hazardous material contact the REM department at 15744.
Long term storage (longer than 3 months) is housed at the Ginsberg warehouse. Rates for long term storage are very modest. Contact Physical Plant for current rates.
Short term storage (3 months or less) is housed at the Printing Services/Shipping Receiving Warehouse building on campus. Currently there is no charge for short term storage.
Short Term Storage - On Campus Warehouse
For items that your department wishes to store for 3 months or less, tape the following information to the items for the warehouse staff:
- Department name
- Contact name
- How long items will need to be stored.
Go to Physical Plant's Service Request. Follow the instructions to open a work request.
- Select Moving from the Problem Type fields.
- In the description section provide the necessary information that physical plant staff will need to locate the items to be moved.
- Include in the description this request is for:
- Short Term storage in on campus warehouse
- Which department these items belong
- How long items are expected to be stored.
Long Term Storage - Ginsberg Warehouse
For items that your department wishes to store for longer than 3 months go to Physical Plant's Service Request. Follow the instructions to open a work request.
- Select Moving from the Problem Type fields.
- In the description section provide the necessary information that physical plant staff will need to locate the items to be moved.
- Include in the description this request is for:
- Long Term storage
- Which department these items belong
- Which account number to charge for storage.
Salvage Process
Used Computer Equipment ITS typically handles office computers that are no longer needed by departments. Contact ITS for assistance or go to ITS Used Computers to review their process.
For items that your department no longer has need and the item is broken, damaged or just unsuitable discard in the trash. NOTE: Please contact the REM department at 15744 prior to disposing of electronic or lab equipment to ensure it does not contain hazardous material.
If your department is unable to dipose of the items properly, go to Physical Plant's Service Request and open a work order for Trash Removal. NOTE: If any item is considered hazardous material contact the REM department at 15744 as they may need to make special arrangements with the disposal company.
For items that your department no longer has need but are in good shape and could be used by another department go to Physical Plant's Service Request
- Select Moving from the Problem Type fields.
- In the description section provide the necessary information that physical plant staff will need to locate the items to be moved.
- Include in the description these items are to go to Salvage at Ginsberg. The department that wants these items from Salvage will pay any storage fees.
