Current Major Requirements
These requirements apply to all students who declare psychology as their major after July 2006.
In addition to completing the requirements specified by IPFW and by the School of Arts and Sciences, students must complete the following courses with a grade of C or better in each course:
I. Introduction to Psychology - 4 credits (all required)
- PSY 100: Science and Fields of Psychology (1 cr)
- PSY 120: Elementary Psychology (3 cr)
II. Research Methods - 6 credits (all required)
- PSY 201: Quantitative Topics in Psychology I (3 cr)
- PSY 203: Research Methods in Psychology (3 cr)
III. Core Content Courses - 9 credits (all required)
- PSY 329: Psychobiology (3 cr)
- PSY 314: Introduction to Learning (3 cr)
- PSY 416: Cognitive Psychology (3 cr)
IV. Distribution - 9 credits (choose 3)
- PSY 240: Introduction to Social Psychology (3 cr)
- PSY 350: Abnormal Psychology (3 cr)
- PSY 420: Introduction to Personality Psychology (3 cr)
Choose One of the Following:
- PSY 369: Development Across the Lifespan (3 credits)
- PSY 235: Child Psychology (3 credits)
V. Advanced Study - 3 credits (choose 1)
- PSY 441: Advanced Research in Personality and Social Psychology
- PSY 480: Field Experience in Psychology
- PSY 490: Practicum in Psychotherapy
- PSY 499: Honors Thesis in Psychology
- PSY 540: History of Psychology
- PSY 550: Introduction to Clinical Psychology
VI. Three psychology electives - 9 credits
In the case of courses which can be repeated for credit (e.g., PSY 392; PSY 496), more than one section of the same course number must have substantially different content, as approved by the department chair, if both are to be used toward meeting this requirement.
VII. Successful completion of the Major Field Test in Psychology during the Senior Year**
Please contact the Psychology Department for more information on test scores.
Total Credits = 40
*PSY 369 and PSY 235 cannot both be taken for credit toward graduation.
