Approved Course Listing for School Counselor and Agency/MFT License Renewal and Professionalization
The following is a list of courses available in the School of Education for the renewal and/or professionalization of the Standard School Counselor License. Professionalization of the Standard License may be sought if: (1) the time requirement of five years experience (at least half-time) as a school counselor post Standard License has been met; and (2) eighteen credit hours beyond the Standard License requirement have been completed. Renewal for the Standard License requires that courses must be taken within the five years preceding the application for renewal. Standard License renewals are valid for five years from the date of application. Professional License renewal is initially valid for ten years, renewable thereafter every five years.
Each course listed below is 3 semester hours. Some courses may have prerequisites and/or require approval of the coordinator. Students currently enrolled in the Counselor Education Program will be given first priority for counseling program courses. Counseling program courses should be taken before non-counseling program courses are selected.
