About Us

Chair’s Welcome

Welcome to the Department of Professional Studies. The department is home for three of the graduate programs in the School of Education: Counselor Education, Educational Leadership, and Special Education.

Please explore the options available in our department by choosing specific programs located on the left of this page. You will find an array of program options that will lead you toward a professional license.

All of our degrees focus on the development of scholar-practitioners, professionals who understand the theory, research, and best-practices that make a significant difference in clients, students, and schools. A variety of learning experiences are used in our training, from traditional lectures to applied activities to real-life experiences in practice and internships.

The faculty continue to innovate and find new methods, ideas, and curriculum to assist you in becoming a highly-skilled, licensed professional. As you explore your options for advancing your career, I urge you to contact the faculty in the respective programs, not only for admissions information, but to get to know them as future mentors, all of whom bring real-world experience to the courses that they teach.

Graduates of our programs are in great demand, and I am encouraged by the high number of employers who contact us to specifically ask for one of our graduates. Our graduates are in both practitioner and leadership positions across Northeast Indiana and can provide you with information about their own experiences in our programs.

Sincerely,
James Burg, Ph.D.
Chair, Department of Professional Studies
