Mark F. Masters, Ph.D.

Associate Professor

Bio:

Mark Masters received his B.S. in Physics from Moravian College in Bethlehem PA in 1985. He earned his M.S. (1987) and Ph.D. (1990) from Lehigh University, also in Bethlehem PA. His M.S. is in theoretical solid state physics and his Ph.D. is in experimental atomic and molecular physics. After completing his Ph.D. Masters was a post-doc at Lehigh University for five months. Later he was awarded a National Research Council Post Doctoral Fellowship at the Laser Physics Branch of the United States Naval Research Laboratory in Washington D.C. for two years where he worked in experimental molecular and laser physics. After completing the fellowship, Masters taught at Rider University Math and Physics Department in Trenton N.J. for one year before accepting a position at IPFW as an assistant professor in 1993. In 1998, Professor Masters was promoted to associate professor. While at IPFW Professor Masters has been principally active in experimental research of near infrared laser induced fluorescence from sodium potassium molecules, vacuum ultraviolet emission from discharge excited clusters, and development of solid state dye lasers. All of his research actively involves undergraduate students. Professor Masters has also been involved in all of the NSF funded updates of the student laboratories and has dabbled in physics education research while working with Professor Maloney.
