Desiderio A. Vasquez, Ph.D.

Associate Professor

Bio:

Prof. Desiderio Vasquez obtained his bachellor degree in Physics from the Universidad Catolica del Peru (1982), and his doctorate in Physics from the University of Notre Dame (1988). Upon graduation he became a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Texas at Austin, and later at the University of West Virginia. He joined IPFW in the fall of 1993 as an Assistant professor, becoming an Associate Professor in the fall of 2000. In 2004 he became a Fulbright Scholar, teaching and doing research at the Universidad Catolica del Peru. Prof. Vasquez area of research is computational physics, where he develops models and algorithms that applies to different areas in physics. He has carried out research in solid state physics, fluid dynamics, chemical waves, pattern formation, river networks, and nonlinear dynamics.Currently he has a very active research program in physico-chemical pattern formation investigating the interaction between fluid flow and chemical structures. These structures present different chemical concentrations in different regions of space. Some of these patterns are stationary, while others change with time. His research has been supported with grants from Research Corporation and the International Center of Theoretical Physics.
