Who should apply?

The camp is designed for girls entering the 7 – 9th grades.  This highly interactive and collaborative camp provides wonderful opportunities for girls to

challenge themselves to excel.  Girls who are ready to learn more about their own capabilities and have a desire to practice new skills will get the most out of this camp.  No prior leadership experience is required.

How do I enroll?

  1. Complete the enrollment application.  Please print the application and both the student and a parent/guardian must sign it.  Include camp fee or financial assistance request with application (see financial assistance).  Note:  If the student is wait listed and space does not become available, a full refund will be issued.
  2. Space in the camp is limited.  We recommend that you submit your application as early as possible, since applications will be processed on a rolling basis.  Applications received after the deadline will be handled as space permits.
  3. Mail application to address on application.

What is the cost of the camp?

The camp costs $75 per student.

What is included in the fee?

  • Access to technology to enhance camp projects
  • Lunch each day
  • Camp T-shirt
  • Certificate of Completion

Is there financial assistance available?

At this time, there are two ways that you can qualify for a scholarship.  1.  If you are enrolled in the 21st Century Scholar program . 2. If you receive school lunch subsidy or have other issues you would like us to consider.  Please note either of these situations under the need financial assistance area on the application.

What are the dates of the camp?

The camp will take place from June 20 – 24, 2005.

What are the camp hours?

The camp meets from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

How will I know if I am accepted to the camp?

Once your application has been received, we will send a welcome packet or a letter stating the camp is full.

What are the facilities like?

While we will be using classrooms on the IPFW campus, the sessions will NOT be lectures!  We have large and small rooms, stage areas and state-of-the-art computer labs reserved for the week.  Depending on the weather, we’ll also use outdoor facilities when possible.

Why an all girl leadership camp?

There are not many programs that emphasize leadership development available to girls in our area, and nationwide there are few programs whose curriculum does not center around “great leaders” or servant leadership.  This program views leadership as a social influence process (not a position..i.e. president of  ???), and presents a leadership model that is immediately accessible to all girls.  Girls should have an opportunity to experience and practice activities in same sex groups to encourage full participation and growth that is often not achieved in mixed sex  groups.

Is there transportation available?

Transportation to and from the camp is the responsibility of each student.  Complete drop off and parking information will be provided in the welcome packet.  Please watch the times and notify us if you anticipate late arrivals or pickups.

What if the girl has a disability or medical condition that might affect or limit her participation in the camp or requires special assistance, facilities or arrangements?

Please indicate this on the enrollment application and attach an explanation.  Also, please feel to enroll as a volunteer and attend camp too.

What does a typical day look like?

Please check out our website- there is a tentative camp schedule.

Who has been putting the camp together?

Our teaching faculty members are university faculty and practicing professionals.  With prior experience working with leadership development programs, technology camps and workshops, and middle and high school girls, our staff is carefully selected to ensure that the girls receive the highest quality experience.  The role of the faculty is to bring the core curriculum to life and stimulate discussion and thought.

In addition to the faculty, several IPFW and community volunteers, and a group of student peer advisors have worked on camp arrangements.  They have helped by inspiring curriculum and program changes, testing activities, and making significant program suggestions.

Please e-mail DINA if you have additional questions.
