Study Abroad at IPFW—We Offer You the World!

Your college years provide you with some of the best opportunities for exploring the world that you will ever find.  Students who have returned from study abroad usually describe the experience as the most important and exciting part of their college careers.  Once they’ve graduated, they also find that their international experience helps them get jobs.  IPFW offers you some of the nation’s best chances to study overseas and begin to get the global experience that you will need for the future.

IPFW students have an astounding range of over 500 study abroad opportunities available to them.  They can choose a program from either Indiana University or Purdue University, or select one of IPFW’s own overseas programs.

Suitable study abroad programs exist for all majors.  Fluency in a foreign language is not necessary to participate in the majority of programs, and in fact, many programs have no foreign language requirement at all.  While some programs are reserved for juniors and seniors, there are many programs that you can apply to as early as your freshman year.  So you don’t necessarily have to wait until you are an upperclassman!

If you think that you may want to study abroad for a whole semester or even for a full academic year (two semesters), you will probably need to start planning well in advance.  Students who want to study abroad for a semester or more often begin planning during their freshman year.

The Office of International Programs (www.ipfw.edu/oip) gives weekly study abroad information sessions that are advertised on the login pop-up calendars, the electronic message board and on signs all over campus.  To start investigating your options, attend a study abroad information session.  When you are ready to begin doing some of your own research, click on the links for Indiana University, Purdue University and IPFW Continuing Studies Travel Programs at the left.  After you’ve explored some of your options, click on this link Study-Abroad-Inquiry-Form,  fill out the form on your computer, save it as a .doc file, attach it to an e-mail and send it to weatherk@ipfw.edu.

Contact Dr.  Jenny Weatherford, Director of the Office of International Programs, at weatherk@ipfw.edu or 481-6494 for additional information.
