Work here. Learn here. Graduate here!

A team of professionals from IPFW have developed sample learning outcomes and a student employee training program to provide ways to assess student employee learning while building a more competent workforce.

Starting with the Baccalaureate Framework as a foundation, a workgroup developed a list of student employee learning outcomes at both the Student Affairs and departmental levels. The list provides an easily adaptable framework for staff looking to develop learning outcomes for various positions and departments within IPFW. Staff can pull directly from the list, or reference the list as a framework for developing additional learning outcomes.

The process of developing these learning outcomes included talking with student employees and supervisors and reviewing the variety of student positions and duties within IPFW. Several common training needs were identified and a second workgroup was formed to develop a student employee training program to be piloted this spring. The training program consists of seven core required modules and six elective modules which cover areas deemed most critical for IPFW student employees. They are:

  1. Customer Service
  2. Professional Etiquette & Ethics
  3. FERPA
  4. Student Employment Basics
  5. Diversity and Civility in the Workplace
  6. Communication in the Workplace
  7. Career Services
  8. Telephone Etiquette
  9. Leadership
  10. Time Management
  11. Suicide Prevention
  12. Financial Management
  13. University Resources

The new student employee training program provides IPFW with a comprehensive and consistent training approach. Supervisors and departments will benefit from a well-researched, pre-packaged curriculum specific to Higher Education, and student employees will benefit from the professional training.
