Student Orientation Advising Registration
Your Responsibilities as an Advisee
Know the name of and how to contact your advisor.
Contact the department secretary if your advisor is unavailable.
Check your official IPFW university e-mail frequently.
Familiarize yourself with IPFW and department policies and regulations.
Understand program requirements for graduation.
Make your own academic decisions based upon information from advisor.
Seek academic help at first sign of needing assistance; your advisor can also refer you to other appropriate university resources.
Prepare for your post-graduation future.
Your Advisor's Responsibilities to You:
Post and maintain adequate office hours for advising.
Communicate with students in a timely manner through IPFW e-mail and other appropriate means.
Share knowledge of IPFW & department policies & regulations.
Explain program requirements and document progress.
Provide knowledgeable suggestions about realistic course load & selections.
Refer students to IPFW resources, when needed.
Discuss certification, licensing criteria, internships or co-ops.
Help students connect curriculum to post-graduation goals.
The advisor you meet at your College Day may not be your assigned advisor.
