Answer: Yes, your parents, guardians, or guest (maximum of 2) can attend your Advising & Registration Day with you. They will have a different schedule during parts of the day, but will spend the majority of the time with you.
Answer: Students will be required to complete both the Math Placement test (on campus) and the English Guided Self placement (online) prior to attending Advising & Registration Day.
1. Students who have completed college level Math or English at a regionally accredited college (eg North Central), a dual credit course, or a school-based program with a grade of C- or above do not need to complete placement tests in these areas.
- Note, official college transcripts must be submitted to Admissions for an evaluation of transfer credits in Math or English.
2. Students who have taken Math or English AP or CLEP exams and have submitted scores to the Admissions office to be evaluated for transfer credit.
Answer: Once you begin classes at the university, all of your records including, but not limited to, academic records, financial records, medical records, etc., are protected by the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). This law, in working to protect your privacy, can appear to be a roadblock to family members or can work as a catalyst for parents and students to communicate about things like grades and bills. Specific questions about FERPA should be directed to the Registrar.
Answer: The official mode of communication on campus is email. The university's portal—myIPFW—is your link to WebMail, Blackboard, OASIS (how you register for classes), student calendar of events, academic info, financial info, and Helmke Library. IPFW will use email to communicate with you about registration, billing and other important information. Account activation is required for all students.
