Are you looking for a fun way to give back to your community, while meeting other students from the Fort Wayne area? Then it might be time to take the plunge!
Alternative Spring Break will take place March 9-12, 2015 right here in Fort Wayne. The program is coordinated by United Way of Allen County, specifically for Ivy Tech and IPFW students.
Alternative Spring Break challenges students to take a step out of their comfort zones to see first-hand the needs in our community. This year the focus will be on the southeast side of Fort Wayne. In effort to expose students to areas and agencies they may never have had an opportunity to visit.
This past Alternative Spring Break 20 students from local universities spent the week working at and learning about nearly a dozen of our local nonprofits. The agencies provide services in United Way’s four focus areas: education, health, income and basic needs. Participants engaged in reflection on daily experiences and discussed what their role is as a Millennial in our community. In addition, students were asked to consider commitments to social action and justice issues which impact Allen County, the nation, and the global community.
The program is taking applications at this time. Please fill out the application below if you are interested in being a part of Alternative Spring Break this year.
Applications are due February 23, 2015.
