How do I change my major?

Obtain an unofficial copy of your transcript from the Registrar’s office. Take your transcript to the department you wish to declare as a major. Your new department will handle all the paperwork.

How do I add a minor?

Verify with your academic advisor that the minor you wish is available to students in your major. Meet with an authorized representative of the department which sponsors the minor. The sponsoring department will complete a Record of Acceptance To and Completion of an Academic Minor form. Return the completed and signed white and yellow copies of this form to your major department. You should retain the pink copy for your records.

How do I add a second major?

How do I delete a minor or second major?

Go to department of the minor or second major that you want to delete. The department will handle all the paperwork.

How do I know if I am a freshman, sophomore, junior or senior?

Class standing is determined by your department, and should reflect the total credits you have accumulated or your progress toward completing the specific requirements of the degree program in which you are enrolled. When your classification is being determined for a future semester, your department may also include courses and credits that you expect to complete by the time that semester begins. If you believe that your classification is incorrect, you should contact your department.

Who is my academic advisor?

Your academic advisor is assigned by your academic department. You can view your academic advisor's name and contact information in myIPFW on the Enrollment tab in the Academic Profile channel. If your academic advisor is not listed in myIPFW or is otherwise inaccurate, contact your academic department. If you change your major, check with your new department on who will be your academic advisor.

How can I change my academic advisor?

What are the requirements for Semester Honors and Dean's List?

At the conclusion of each fall or spring semester (but not the summer semester), academic departments indicate which students are eligible for the following academic recognitions:

Semester Honors List

  • Having at least 6 credits included in the graduation GPA
  • Achieving at least a 3.50 semester GPA
  • Achieving at least a 2.00 graduation GPA

Dean's List

  • Having 12 credits included in the graduation GPA
  • Having at least 6 credits included in the semester GPA
  • Achieving at least a 3.50 graduation GPA
  • Achieving at least a 3.00 semester GPA

If you have earned academic recognition for either of the two previous semesters, your achievements will be recognized at the annual Honors Convocation and appropriately noted on your academic records.

How do I transfer courses to IPFW?

Submit an official transcript from the college or university to the Admissions office. It will be evaluated and appropriate transfer credit will be applied to your academic record. Direct all questions about transfer credit to the Admissions office.
