Any student enrolled at IPFW but not wishing to complete a degree is categorized as a "Guest Student" and is advised in The Mastodon Advising Center (MAC). These students are usually visiting from colleges outside the IU or Purdue systems who wish to take class at IPFW and transfer the credit back to their home university.
Because it is the decision of the degree-granting university to accept credits taken at other schools and how the credit will be applied, students need to verify with their home university that credits taken at IPFW will count toward their degree. MAC advisors can assist guest students with registration and navigating the IPFW system, but they cannot verify if a class will fulfill degree requirements at another school.
Due to their non-degree status at IPFW, guest students may have difficulties registering for some upper-level classes. If a guest student receives prerequisite or test score errors when registering, they need to submit the “Non Degree No Option Students Waiver Form.” A MAC advisor will review the form within two business days and reply to the student, generally through their IPFW e-mail address. Once the form is processed, the student will be able to register for classes on their own using myIPFW.
When meeting with a MAC advisor to register for classes, guest students are required to bring a copy of their college transcript(s) to the advising appointment in case prerequisite overrides are necessary. IPFW prerequisites may be found in the course description section of the IPFW Undergraduate Bulletin.
