Conditional/Exploring Majors

The Conditional / Exploring major serves students who do not qualify for regular admission into the university and would benefit from extra attention to complete their first year successfully. Students in the program work closely with an academic advisor who will monitor their academic progress and connect them with support services.

Students admitted to the university as Conditional / Exploring must abide by certain conditions in order to continue their enrollment at IPFW:

  • Meet with their academic office at least 3 times during the semester
  • Have a hold on their record
  • Take classes recommended by their advisor
  • Participate in all scheduled classes
  • Take all applicable MAP-Works surveys
  • Notify their advisor of any changes needed to their class schedule
  • Keep contact information current
  • Regularly check their campus email
  • Use support services (tutoring, Supplemental Instruction, etc.) when needed

Once a student has successfully completed the requirements of their agreement, they will be released to seek admission into their academic major. Students are released when they have:

  • Earned 30 credits
  • Have met the above conditions
  • Have been accepted into an academic major
  • Students may be released early by completing 15 credits with a 3.0 GPA or higher and being accepted into an academic major.

Conditional / Exploring students will also be required to take a MAC Advisor authorized sequence of classes until released from the program. These classes are:
