Minimum Networked Equipment Standards

University owned equipment must meet specific standards in order to operate effectively on IPFW's network and in order to be supported by IT Services.  These are minimum requirements only--many computers will need to exceed the standards listed below to provide an effective workstation. There are also Security & Compliance standards that are required, which can be found here.

If you are planning to purchase a new computer and have questions about specific requirements, please contact the Help Desk to open a work order.

Minimum Requirements for PC/Laptops/Mac

  • Processor
    • Minimum: Intel Core i-series
    • Recommended: Intel Core i7
  • RAM
    • Minimum: 4GB
    • Recommended: 8GB
  • OS
    • Recommended: Windows 7 SP1
    • OS X 10.8 or Greater
  • Storage
    • Minimum: Solid State Drive (SSD) 256GB HD
    • Recommended: Solid State Drive (SSD) 256GB HD or Greater

OS Requirements for Mobile Devices (Phones/Tablets)

  • Windows > 8.0
  • Android > 4.4
  • iOS > 7.0
