2016 Cohort Project Updates

Leadership Academy Select Project Updates for Cohort #1

Susan Byers Cohort #1

Susan Byers Leadership Training Program

Susan Byers developed a leadership training program for the Doermer School of Business administrative staff called DSB Leadership Development Program.  This program increased the connections between DSB and the business community by holding training sessions at business locations in the community and then sharing lunch with the members of that organization. Leadership skills of twelve faculty and staff, including all of the leadership team were enhanced and resulted in a more cohesive leadership team as well as a core group focused on leading cultural change within DSB.

Marcia Dixson, Terri Swim & Bruce Kingsbury Cohort #1

A year-long New Faculty Institute and Chair/Dean Development series was developed by Marcia D. Dixson, Terri Swim, and Bruce Kingsbury.  This new system for orienting and mentoring new faculty and chairs throughout their first years of service was created through a partnership of three Leadership Academy participants from Cohort #1.  An extended orientation process was developed for new faculty and administrators so that they may have a greater knowledge of our university and their new roles. This project will continue to provide professional support and guidance for those new to IPFW or in new roles at IPFW.

Christine Kuznar Cohort #1

Chirstine Kuznar Life After Athletics

Christine Kuznar created Life After Athletics, a panel discussion with former Fort Wayne student-athlete alumni.  It was created to address some of the special issues that student-athletes face as they transition out of competitive sport and into the next stages of their lives.  While student-athletes are still on campus, skills can be developed to both improve their transition out of sport and to promote their connection to Fort Wayne as alumni.  This will be an ongoing project that each year will select a relevant topic for student-athlete life skills that incorporates alumni.

John Hrehov Cohort #1

John Hrehov created recruitment materials to promote the Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) program. Specifically, YouTube videos of students working on campus studios and posters/print materials were created to increase knowledge of the BFA programs and scholarships. The ultimate goal is to increase the number of quality students enrolling in this program.
