The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (or FERPA, 20 U.S.C. § 1232g; 34 CFR Part 99) is a Federal Law that protects the privacy of student educational records. At age 18, FERPA rights transfer from the guardian to the student. As a result, there is limited educational information that the Office of the Dean of Students can discuss with anyone other than the student directly.
For the ODOS staff to discuss specific incidents and files, a completed "Authorization to Release Information" form must submitted by the student.
