Amy, the daughter of Lori and Dan Schwarz, is from Fort Wayne, Indiana. She is currently a Music Education major.
Amy is involved in many organizations on the IPFW campus, including Phi Kappa Phi, the collegiate chapter of the National Association for Music Education (NAfME), and the IPFW Wind Ensemble. Leadership roles within these organizations have included secretary of NAfME and vice-president of the Wind Ensemble.
Her senior project for the Chapman Scholars Program examines the connections between childhood music education experiences and attendance at classical music events as an adult. In addition to her research, she has organized fellow student musicians from IPFW to go into the community to perform classical music at various retirement homes. She was awarded a Community Service grant from Indiana Campus Compact to fund this project to help share the joy of music in the Fort Wayne community. After graduating from IPFW in the Spring of 2013, Amy plans to go to graduate school with an eventual goal of working in an arts-related non-profit and advocating for dynamic arts education opportunities for all students.
