Service Recognition Payments

Vicky Carwein, June 5, 2017

Dear Campus Colleagues,

During the Executive Committee meeting of the Purdue Board of Trustees last week, the FY’18 conceptual budgets were approved for all campuses. The Trustees included service recognition payments to eligible faculty and staff members at IPFW and PNW.

These payments will be made in installments; a one percent (of base) will be paid in July 2017 and a possible additional 1%, which will be dependent upon enrollment numbers this fall and overall financial position, may be paid in January 2018.

In July, all eligible faculty and staff members will receive a lump sum service recognition payment equal to 1% of their salary. Individual payments will be calculated on the base salary in effect as of June 1, 2017, and will have taxes withheld according to regular withholding instructions. Service recognition payments will appear in your paycheck on these dates:

  • Biweekly-paid staff – Service recognition payment will be paid on Wednesday, July 19, 2017.
  • Monthly-paid faculty and staff – Service recognition payment will be paid on Monday, July 31, 2017.

To be eligible for these service recognition payments, you must have been hired into a benefitted full-time position prior to January 1, 2017. In addition, you must be employed on July 1, 2017, for the July payment, and on January 1, 2018, for the January payment, without a pending termination date.

For questions related to employee eligibility, please contact Vanessa Mettler, benefits and leave administrator, by email at Vanessa.mettler@ipfw.edu

Although IPFW continues to face enrollment and budgetary challenges, we remain committed to recruiting and retaining a talented and engaged workforce and feel that it is important to provide these modest one time payments. Over the last three years, we have:

  • Increased the salaries of all of our hourly paid staff, as well as the salaries of our monthly paid staff who fell below $40,000 (January 2015)
  • Awarded, on average, a 1.5% merit increase (July 2015)
  • Given a Service Recognition Payment of $1,000 to all eligible faculty and staff (July 2015)
  • Brought our minimum wage for benefitted staff to $10 per hour (January 2016)
  • Awarded, on average, a 1.5% merit increase (July 2016)

I thank all of you for the work you continue to do in supporting the efforts to improve our university and sincerely appreciate your service and dedication to helping our students succeed in these challenging times.

All my best,

Vicky
