HLC Board Approves Realignment

Ron Elsenbaumer, March 5, 2018

Dear Campus Community,

It is with great enthusiasm and pride that I write to share some wonderful news.

After months of effort and hard work by so many at the University, the realignment of IPFW, including assuming the name Purdue University Fort Wayne, has officially been approved by the Higher Learning Commission Board of Trustees (HLC Board).

The HLC Board met on February 22, 2018, and we received the official action letter notifying approval of the change on March 5, 2018. While there is much work yet to be done over the next four months, this approval marks a major milestone in the progression of the realignment and the final approval needed for us to begin officially marketing and branding the new Purdue University Fort Wayne.

As I’ve said before, the dedicated people across our campus, as well as our colleagues from the Indiana University and Purdue University Systems, have worked diligently to ensure a solid foundation for the future of both institutions in Fort Wayne.

The continued collaboration between Indiana University Fort Wayne and Purdue University Fort Wayne is critical to the future success of both institutions. As we transition to being separate and independent—yet equally committed—partners, I encourage everyone to remember our number one priority—our students.

I have had the privilege of working with hundreds of people over the past several months and know that we are all committed to the success of our students and to providing them with a world-class education as they work toward the ultimate goal of earning their college degree.

This is truly an exciting time to be part of an institution with so much promise and opportunity ahead. As we pause to recognize and appreciate this milestone, let us remember that the work of building a great university is never finished. Each of you has a vital role to play in writing our next chapter, and I look forward to working with you to do just that.

It’s a great day to be a Mastodon!
