Keith Busse

History and Qualifications

Keith E. Busse was born and raised in Fort Wayne and educated in NE Indiana. He earned his MBA from IPFW in 1978 while working at Nucor Corporation.  He revolutionized the American steel industry by utilizing a newly developed European electric arc technology.  In 1993 he co-founded Steel Dynamics and served as CEO for 20 years.  Throughout his career he also demonstrated commitment to community service through his service on the Board of Directors of the Regional Chamber of Northeast Indiana, the Board of Trustees for Fort Wayne Community Foundation, Trine University, and the University of St. Francis.  He served as a member of the Royal Dons Executive Board for IPFW Athletics, Chairman of the Cadillac Open, and on the board of NE Indiana Corporate Council and Junior Achievement.

Keith’s generosity allowed IPFW Alumni to have a place to reconnect with one another and stay engaged in the life of the university with the generous gift of the Alumni Center.

This award is given to IPFW alumni who exhibit the qualities and achievements modeled by Keith E. Busse: achievement in a profession, distinction in public service, and extraordinary service to Fort Wayne and to IPFW.
