Irene Walters believes that cities need great universities, and she has worked tirelessly to make IPFW—and our community—the best it can be. Walters joined IPFW in 1995, working for 19 years as the executive director of University Relations. In this role, she led efforts to position IPFW as northeast Indiana’s comprehensive university through building collaborations and partnerships. Her efforts made possible the creation of several IPFW signature projects, including the Omnibus Lecture Series, Tapestry, the Remnant Trust at IPFW, Riverfest, Mastodons on Parade, and Sculpture with Purpose.

Although Walters left IPFW in 2014, she continues to advocate for IPFW and the community through service on various boards, such as the Community Foundation of Greater Fort Wayne, Francine’s Friends, Friends of the Rivers, Greater Fort Wayne, Artlink, Turnstone, Parkview Hospital, Visit Fort Wayne, and Tapestry.

Walters is a passionate ambassador for Purdue University Fort Wayne and the role it will play in the community’s future.
