Elizabeth “Betsy” Chapman has served on the IPFW Omnibus Lecture Series committee and the IPFW Foundation board of trustees. As a director of Waterfield Mortgage Company, she was instrumental in that organization’s funding of IPFW’s on-campus housing. She and her husband, Howard, also endowed the first full professorship chair at IPFW, designated as the Chapman Distinguished Professor of English. In 2007, the couple endowed the Chapman Scholars Program at IPFW, and in 2016, they provided additional funds to the program.

An accomplished musician and pianist, Chapman has coauthored three musical  plays for children. She also has a close relationship with Fort Wayne’s Sister City Program. The Chapmans established the Chapman Exchange Students Fund within the Community Foundation of Greater Fort Wayne to provide assistance in academic and cultural exchanges between Fort Wayne and its Sister Cities.

Chapman and her husband have two sons and three grandsons, all of whom make their home in Fort Wayne.
