Bachelor of Science Completion
RN-B.S. with a Major in Nursing

Admission Criteria:


Admission into the RN – B.S. completion program requires that the applicant be a graduate of a state accredited associate degree or diploma program in nursing and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.3 on a 4.0 scale. A current Indiana nursing license is required prior to taking the first clinical nursing course. Credits required from the lower division include:

  • 34 credits nursing
  • 15 credits in biological and physical sciences (must include 3 credits of chemistry)
  • 3 credits written communication skills (English)
  • 6 credits behavioral sciences (psychology and sociology or anthropology)

                                                                                                                      
Undergraduate Requirements:

  • Meet with Department of Nursing advisor
    • Transcripts will be reviewed for admission criteria.
    • If additional science courses are required they must be completed the first semester.
  • Register for NUR 377 Professional Seminar II:  Concepts and Trends in Healthcare Delivery.
    • It is the first course taken upon admission to the RN-B.S. Completion program.  
    • If the student does not take NUR 377 the first semester, the student may take any non-nursing courses, such as ENG W233. Until NUR 377 is completed, the student will be placed on conditional admit to the nursing program.
  • Obtain Personal digital assistant (PDA) or smart phone is required prior to the start of NUR 346.
  • Meet the Health Sciences Technical Standards; please go to www.ipfw.edu/hhs/resources/standards.shtml to review the Technical Standards with Disability Statement. 

Health and Clinical agency orientation requirements:

  • Complete a Health Record Sheet and Student Check prior to taking NUR 377 (unless continuously enrolled in Nursing at IPFW). Also turn in a copy of the RN license prior to taking NUR 377:
    • Health Record sheet (which includes physical exam and immunizations)
    • Student Check: Healthcare Student Background Check
    • RN license
  • Turn in a copy of the 1-step TB, CPR, and substance abuse screen results and any clinical agency orientation requirements before beginning clinical rotation in NUR 442, NUR 419 or NUR 418.  These results are due by August 15 (fall semester), December 15 (spring semester), and May 15 (summer I and II).     
    • 1-step TB
    • CPR (healthcare provider or professional rescuer)
    • Substance abuse screen
    • Clinical agency orientation
