- Endocrine disorders (diabetes)
- Gastrointestinal disorders (ulcers, colon cancer, colostomies, Crohn's disease)
- Heart disorders (bypass surgery, heart and cardiovascular diseases)
- Liver diseases (Hepatitis, cirrhosis)
- Neurological disorders (strokes, head injuries, seizures, etc.)
- Renal disorders (kidney diseases and failure, dialysis)
- Respiratory health disorders (lung cancer, smoking, pneumonia, asthma)
- Spirituality (nursing, student, and client focus)
- Thyroid disorders
Sorge is currently researching minority cancer survivors and student nurses' concept of spirituality. Sorge researches prostate cancer-survivors and their spouses. She publishes routinely on nursing education, the Newman Systems Model, and assessment of nursing students' academic achievement.
She serves on the planning committee for the Cancer Services of Allen County Annual Nursing Conference. She is a member and past board of director's member of the District I Indiana State Nurses Association, past chair and member of the annual IPFW Nursing Research Colloquium, a member of the American Nurses Association, and Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Honor Society.
