ATLANTA, GA - Demarco Cox had 15 points and seven rebounds Georgia Tech improved to 3-0 for the third straight season with a 78-69 victory over IPFW on Friday night. Big man Steve Forbes led IPFW (2-1) with 17 points and 10 rebounds, though he was held to 6-for-16 shooting from the floor. Mo Evans chipped in 16 points, including three 3-pointers.

Incomes rise only slightly

Personal income in metropolitan Fort Wayne was essentially flat in 2013, compared with a year earlier, based on estimates by the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis. “When you’re looking at averages, it’s tough,” said John Kessler, director of the Center for Economic Education at IPFW. “We’ve had some major corporations leave in the last few years with good-paying jobs. You have to factor that in.”

Max Montesino, associate professor of leadership, said northeast Indiana’s Hispanic population – which he estimates is in the thousands – strongly supports the executive order. Obama’s order “is just a tiny part of what needs to be done; it is just a temporary fix that will provide relief from deportation for a segment of the undocumented population.”

New tool to help 3rd graders read

A new free online reading program designed to aid teachers and tutors of third graders will be introduced Thursday at IPFW. The reading program was developed through the Big Goal Collaborative’s third-grade reading team with online support provided by CVC Communications of Fort Wayne. The College of Education and Public Policy will co-host the event.
