FORT WAYNE, Ind.—Indiana University–Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW) and the Department of Geosciences will hold a ceremony to officially dedicate the Dr. Jack A. Sunderman Geogarden on Friday, October 4, 2013, at 4 p.m. The geogarden is located next to Kettler Hall.

"It is a rare event to name something at a university for a faculty member," said Anne Argast, chair and professor of geosciences at IPFW. "As a founding member of the Department of Geosciences 50 years ago, Jack holds a special place in the heart of IPFW."

The Dr. Jack A. Sunderman Geogarden and Memorial includes an art installation designed by local artist Cary Shafer. The family of Sunderman and the artist will be joined at the dedication by Chancellor Vicky Carwein, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Jeff Anderson, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences Carl Drummond, and students and alumni from the Department of Geosciences.

The media are invited to attend and cover this event.
