FORT WAYNE, Ind.—Following a national search, Dr. David Wesse has been named vice chancellor for financial and administrative affairs (VCFAA) at Indiana University–Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW). Wesse currently serves as vice chancellor for finance and administrative services at Louisiana State University, Alexandria (LSUA).

“Dr. Wesse's breadth of knowledge and extensive experience in higher education will serve us well as we transition to new leadership in this area and continue working toward our strategic goals as a university," said Chancellor Vicky Carwein. "He will provide leadership and vision in financial planning, working with members of our executive staff, student government leaders, senior leadership, faculty leadership, community, and legislators."

Wesse has served in his current role at LSUA for the past 10 years. Previously he was the assistant vice president for administration and finance at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville. Wesse has also served in senior-level management positions at Loyola University of Chicago and Northwestern University, along with consulting experience at more than a dozen higher education institutions.

Wesse replaces Walt Branson, vice chancellor for financial affairs, who left IPFW this summer to assume a new position as vice chancellor for finance and administration at Missouri University of Science and Technology. Dr. Stanley Davis has been serving in the role as interim VCFAA. "Stan's commitment, dedication, and hard work in serving the university during this transition period is much appreciated and tremendously valued," said Carwein.

As VCFAA, Wesse will oversee a university operating budget of $180 million as well as financial and administrative units including Athletics, Physical Plant, University Police, and Human Resources.

“In my meetings at IPFW the focus on collaboration and shared governance indicated the interest in one of the most significant strengths of higher education – the effective use of the tremendous intellectual resources of the institution to maximize its effectiveness," said Wesse. "Long before more recent trends in the business world higher education understood the desirability of talented people working together as 'teams' to maximize resources and achieve desirable outcomes. IPFW’s focus on developing and exploiting this strength came through in my visits to the campus. That by working together we are stronger and more capable of achieving our goals. I am tremendously pleased to be coming to IPFW and look forward to joining the highly capable and gifted faculty, staff, and students in working together to lead the university into a bright future."

The position is effective June 1, 2014.
