FORT WAYNE, Ind.—Indiana Governor Mike Pence and State Senator Jim Banks of Columbia City will hold a news conference and bill signing ceremony Thursday, May 2, 2013 at noon in Kettler Hall, Room 154 on the campus of Indiana University–Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW).
The bill to be signed is Senate Bill 177, Tuition for Veterans, which was authored by Banks. The new legislation, which goes into effect July 1, provides that qualified veterans are eligible for the in-state tuition rate for undergraduate courses at state colleges and universities when they enroll within 12 months after their discharge from the military. The bill is designed to help those who have served out of state or country who move to Indiana and want to pursue their education.
The news conference and bill signing ceremony are free and open to the public.
