Manufacturing Leaders Invited to Attend

FORT WAYNE, Ind.—A highly interactive and practical exploration of why and how to design and follow a China business strategy is the basis of an afternoon workshop, Thursday, February 2, at the Northeast Indiana Innovation Center (NIIC), located at 3201 Stellhorn Road in Fort Wayne.

The workshop is sponsored by Indiana University–Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW), Purdue University, and the Northeast Indiana Regional Partnership and jointly hosted by IPFW’s Office of Engagement and the Purdue Global Business Engagement Initiative.

This event is designed to help Indiana CEOs of mid-sized manufacturing firms assess their current or planned business strategies with China, including two-way trade, investment, technology, collaboration, competition, and more. A sharing of best practices, an objective assessment of risks and rewards, and discussion of realistic strategies, costs, timing, as well as other areas is the goal

Presenters include Mark Van Fleet, executive director of Purdue University’s Global Business Engagement Initiative. A former U.S. diplomat, Van Fleet served 20 years in senior positions at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, including as vice president for Asia, and director of International Business Development. Other presenters include an Indiana CEO who has formed and successfully implemented China operations, a chairman of a successful China-based business consulting firm with years of experience helping U.S. firms enter the China market, and an attorney with deep expertise with China.

The workshop is open to the public; there is a $25 registration fee which covers lunch. The deadline to register is Monday, January 30. Register online; seating is limited and preregistration is required.

The Global Business Engagement Initiative, which is part of Purdue's Engagement Office, offers international business development resources, consulting services, and connections to foreign trade and investment partners. The program draws on Purdue's strengths—including international students, parents, alumni, faculty, technology, research parks, business services, and connections with foreign universities—to attract international investors and grow exports for Indiana, while supporting Purdue's learning and research missions.
