FORT WAYNE, Ind.—At a meeting held this week in Shijiazhuang, China, Indiana University–Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW) Chancellor Michael Wartell established a collaboration with Hebei Academy of Social Sciences to develop a groundbreaking academic and educational collaboration between the two universities.
The meeting was held at the Hebei Academy of Social Sciences and was attended by leaders from both universities, including Hebei’s President Zhou Wen Fu. The collaboration resulted from a meeting last year where the two universities discussed programs to promote the advancement of higher education, research, and services for scholars in the Social Sciences.
“This collaboration is an excellent opportunity for IPFW to help scholars in China to expand their educational opportunities while offering IPFW faculty the chance to broaden their horizons as well,” said Chancellor Wartell.
The agreement includes the exchange of four research scholars from Hebei Academy of Social Sciences, who will visit IPFW for a six-month period of study starting October 2012. The scholars’ fields of expertise include Social Work, Economics, and Human Resources. In addition, IPFW will send a scholar from the university to Hebei to continue research and studies related to the social sciences.
Next month IPFW will send a delegation, led by Dean Otto Chang from the Doermer School of Business, to Hebei for their International Economic Conference on May 12, 2012. Scholars from countries such as Brazil, England, France, Canada, Italy, and Russia will be present at the conference.
“We are looking forward to this collaboration,” said Wartell. “Our two institutions will greatly benefit from the faculty and student exchanges.”
