Community and Volunteers Gear Up for This Saturday's BIG Event

FORT WAYNE, Ind.—Indiana University–Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW) will say thank you to the community that surrounds and supports it this Saturday, March 29, with the 3rd annual BIG Event.

The BIG Event begins at 9 a.m. in the Gates Fieldhouse on the IPFW campus. There are 1,100 volunteers who have already signed up, and organizers are expecting more to walk-ins Saturday morning. The volunteers will be working at 55 different not-for-profit agencies all over Fort Wayne.

At 9:45 a.m. the volunteers will be driven to the agencies they have chosen to help and will be brought back between 1:30 and 2:30 p.m., when they will celebrate a job well done with a victory party.

Fort Wayne Mayor Tom Henry will thank all the BIG Event volunteers at 9:30 a.m. Locations available for the media to visit and cover between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. are as follows:

  • IPFW BIG Event Kickoff (9:30 a.m. Gates Fieldhouse, IPFW)
  • Jorgensen Family YMCA (10313 Aboite Center Rd.)
  • Camp Red Cedar (3900 Hursh Rd.)
  • Downtown Improvement District (PNC north parking lot at Main and Calhoun. Group will end with lunch at Parkview Field)
  • Dare to Dream (6020 West Wallen Rd.)
  • Boys and Girls Club (2609 Fairfield Ave.)
  • The Rescue Mission (2203 Lafayette St.)
  • World Baseball Academy (1701 Freeman St.)
