IPFW Celebrates a Decade of the Appleseed Writing Project

FORT WAYNE, Ind.—The Appleseed Writing Project is proud to present “A Day of Demos: Celebrating a Decade of Effective Writing Instruction” on Saturday, October 26, from 9 a.m. to noon in the Liberal Arts Building at Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW). In its 10th year, the program will focus on practical and effective approaches to writing instruction and will be taught by a series of demonstrations, which will be presented by Teacher Consultants.

Local author Carol Butler (Genois Wilson, Firefighter: She Dared to be First) will be the guest speaker at the showcase. A Day of Demos is open to all K–16 classroom teachers as well as administrators.

Demonstrations include:

  • Writing Craft
  • Revising Strategies
  • Writing-to-Learn
  • Writing Genres
  • Writing Across the Curriculum
  • Digital Literacy
  • Common Core State Standards
  • Reaching Reluctant Readers/Writers
  • Motivating Students

Registration is available online. The event number is 13FBUS103 and the registration fee is $25. Day-of registration is available and will be from 8:30 to 9 a.m. outside the Liberal Arts Building, Room 159. The cost is $30.

Immediately following the Day of Demos there will be a Young Writer’s Showcase from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m., featuring local elementary and middle school students in the Learning Commons (2nd floor Helmke Library).

The showcase is free and open to the public, due to the generous contribution Michael Stapleton, Ph.D., Chapman Professor of English.

The Day of Demos is sponsored by the Appleseed Writing Project, a collaboration between the Department of English and Linguistics, the College of Education and Public Policy, and the Division of Continuing Studies.
