IPFW Alumni Association Officially Renamed "Mastodon Alumni Association"

FORT WAYNE, Ind.—Indiana University–Purdue University Fort Wayne’s (IPFW) alumni association will now be known as the "Mastodon Alumni Association." The new name was announced tonight during the 19th annual Mastodon Roast at the Steel Dynamics Keith E. Busse IPFW Alumni Center.

The Mastodon Alumni Association is open to anyone who has taken classes on the IPFW campus, regardless of whether their degree is from Indiana University or Purdue University. The primary focus is to serve and enrich the Fort Wayne campus and the region.

“We felt it was important in this transition to build an alumni association that not only celebrates the history of our campus, but is inclusive of every student who has experienced it,” said Angie Fincannon, vice chancellor for advancement. “We’re proud and excited to announce this new Mastodon Alumni Association that will bring identity, pride, and excitement to our campus, community, and a 59,000-strong cadre of proud graduates.”

Today was also proclaimed "Day of the Mastodon" by Allen County Commissioner and IPFW alumnus Nelson Peters. “Whereas, from this day forward, the Mastodon Alumni Association and members will carry on the indomitable Mastodon spirit and have a direct, lasting impact on the Fort Wayne campus and community,” reads part of the proclamation. “Now, therefore, the Board of Commissioners of the County of Allen, Indiana, herby proclaims October 5, 2017, as Day of the Mastodon in Allen County.”

It was announced in September that the Office of Advancement partnered with LaBov Marketing Communication and Training to create the new alumni association.

“As one of the 59,000 IPFW alumni, I am proud to have a hand in the positive impacts the Mastodon Alumni Association will have on our members and the community as a whole,” said Shawna Squibb, director of alumni relations. “We look forward to getting people involved on campus and connected with each other.”

Some of the membership benefits include discounted season ticket prices for men’s and women’s basketball and volleyball, campus discounts on merchandise, and access to career services. Benefits for member business include exclusive listing on the Mastodon Alumni Association website, special promotional opportunities, and exposure in the e-newsletter. New benefits will continue to be added as the organization grows. Visit the Mastodon Alumni Association website for more information.

The Mastodon Alumni Association is independent from the Indiana University and Purdue University alumni associations.
