Immersion Excursion Career Exploration Leads to Jobs for IPFW Graduates

FORT WAYNE, Ind.—Several students have received job offers as a result of Indiana University–Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW) Career Services' popular Immersion Excursion program. Two recent IPFW graduates, Jessica Hammond and Robert Reyes, received employment offers from the Fort Wayne Autism Center following a career exploration day last spring.

According to Holli Novinger, director of leadership development at the Fort Wayne Autism Center, the Immersion Excursion program has been a huge benefit to their business.

"A lot of the students we met through IPFW Career Services are really passionate about the education field and have a willingness and passion to learn," said Novinger.

The Fort Wayne Autism Center reached out to IPFW Career Services as a way to meet students with related degrees and a passion for working with children. About a dozen students attended the Immersion Excursion day-long program at the Fort Wayne Autism Center. Reyes and Hammond attended the event and loved what they saw.

"The Immersion Excursion led me to my dream job," said Hammond. "I never knew that I loved ABA Therapy until I spent a day at Fort Wayne Autism Center. Later that day I applied and got a six-month internship, which led me to an incredible full-time job right after graduation."

Adds Reyes: "What I really enjoyed about the Immersion Excursion program is that it allowed me to first observe if the behavioral field was something that I could see myself working in."

"Career Services immersion trips give our students a ‘behind the scenes’ glimpse into company operations," said Josiah Brown, assistant director of career services at IPFW. “The opportunity to network and learn from area companies that are leaders in their industry is an invaluable experience."

Other high profile local employers will be visited at their operating facilities during this spring 2016 semester, including:

Lincoln Financial Group
