FORT WAYNE,Ind.—Indiana University–Purdue University Fort Wayne’s (IPFW) alumni association is holding the annual Mastodon Roast on Thursday, October 5, at 5:30 p.m. at the Steel Dynamics Keith E. Busse IPFW Alumni Center, located at 1528 E. California Road on the west side of campus.

The Mastodon Roast connects alumni and celebrates the rich academic and athletic history and traditions of the campus. This year also marks a special occasion, as the details of the new alumni association will be shared, and its name and logo will be unveiled. Allen County Commissioner and IPFW alumnus Nelson Peters will also read a special proclamation.

“We are excited to be able to share this news in an official capacity,” said Angie Fincannon, vice chancellor for advancement. “The Mastodon Roast is the perfect venue to reveal what we believe will change our campus and our community for the better.’

This comes following the announcement in early September that the Office of Advancement partnered with LaBov Marketing Communications and Training to develop a brand and strategy for the new alumni association that will be independent from the Indiana University and Purdue University alumni associations. The new alumni association will be open to any graduate who has taken classes on the IPFW campus.

The Mastodon Roast is free with a reservation, and open to alumni, staff, faculty and their families. There will be food, activities for kids, and a silent auction to raise funds for alumni scholarships. There are currently more than 59,000 IPFW alumni.

“We are excited to welcome all Mastodons back to campus,” said Shawna Squibb, director of alumni relations. “We want to encourage everyone to get involved and connect with each other and this great place.”

R.S.V.P.s are required and can be submitted on the IPFW Mastodon Roast webpage.

The event is open to the media.
