Domestic Violence Awareness Month Activities at IPFW

FORT WAYNE, Ind.—Domestic Violence Awareness Month is underway at Indiana University–Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW) with a number of events still to come.

  • “Chalk It Up,” Thursday, October 11, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the Science Mall outside Neff Hall. It will include a resource fair featuring local agencies that serve victims of domestic violence
  • Diversity Dialogue: Assertiveness vs. Aggressiveness—Surviving Domestic Violence, Wednesday, October 24, noon to 1:30 p.m., Walb Student Union, Room 222-226
  • 6th Annual Breaking through the Silence: The Noise of Overcoming an Abusive Situation, Tuesday, Nov. 6, noon to 1:15 p.m., Walb Student Union Ballroom, featuring a keynote address by Chris Garrett, domestic violence survivor and advocate. Garrett has initiated and facilitated domestic violence awareness at Ivy Tech Community College–Northeast since 2010 and has advocated for victims of domestic violence before the Indiana Supreme Court. A resource fair will be held following the event, featuring agencies that serve victims of domestic violence.

The events on the IPFW campus are sponsored by the Office of Diversity and Multicultural Affairs, the Center for Women and Returning Adults, Indiana–Purdue Student Government Association, the YWCA of Northeast Indiana, and the Human Services Honorary Society. The events are free and open to the public.
