FORT WAYNE, Ind.—Students, staff, and faculty at Indiana University–Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW) are invited to dance their socks off at the university’s first-ever Dance Marathon, Friday, October 26, from 7 to 11 p.m. in the Walb Student Union International Ballroom. The Dance Marathon is the fall semester component to The BIG Event which will be held spring semester.

Krissy Creager, associate director of Student Life at IPFW and chair of the Dance Marathon committee, says the event has a very serious side. “We are raising money for SCAN, Stop Child Abuse and Neglect, and one hundred percent of the proceeds from the event will go to SCAN. Our goal this first year is to raise $5,000,” said Creager. “There will be representatives from SCAN there the entire event, and we plan to present them with a check at approximately 10:45 p.m.” Creager added there will be two stages, dancing, a DJ, food, giveaways for best costume, best team costume, highest individual fundraiser, and highest team fundraiser.

An anticipated highlight of the evening is not only reaching the goal of raising $5,000, but when that goal is met, Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs George McClellan has pledged to shave his head.

The Dance Marathon is a collaboration of the offices of the Indiana–Purdue Student Government Association (IPSGA), Student Life, and First Year Experience (FYE).  It is sponsored by Best Buy, 800 Degrees Wood Fired Pizza, Qdoba, LSR Activewear, YoYos, and Diskey Sign.

The dance marathon is not open to the public; however, members of the media are invited to attend and cover the event.
