FORT WAYNE, Ind.—The Mike Downs Center for Indiana Politics and the Department of Political Science at Indiana University–Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW) will host a special Civics Day program for area high school students, Monday, April 21. The day begins with registration at 9 a.m. in the Classic Ballroom in Walb Student Union.

Approximately 100 area high school students are expected to attend the annual Civics Day event, which begins with opening remarks from IPFW Chancellor Vicky L. Carwein. From 10 to 11 a.m., Indiana's Third District Representative, Marlin Stutzman, will talk with and field questions from the students. Topics will include politics and civic engagement, as well as the dynamics at play in Washington, D.C.

Following a lunch break, the students will spend the final hour in a discussion on how to improve American politics. An issue guide, (Political Fix: How Do We Get American Politics Back on Track?) produced by the National Issues Forum, will be provided to all participants.
