FORT WAYNE, Ind.—The Hospitality Management Program at Indiana University–Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW) has earned initial membership into the Hotel Schools of Distinction (HSD). HSD is a global alliance of premier hotel schools in partnership with hospitality industry leaders dedicated to creating high-quality talent by sharing knowledge and research.

HSD recognizes the need for specialized, management-ready candidates to fuel the global growth of the world’s most prominent organizations and companies in the hospitality and tourism sector. The discerning hotel and tourism industry is seeking candidates who are flexible and prepared for work in a global market. For the most recent list of members and information visit the HSD website

“It takes a great deal of commitment and determination to earn membership into the Hotel Schools of Distinction,” said John Niser, president of Hotel Schools of Distinction, chair of the Department of Consumer and Family Sciences, and director of the Hospitality Management Program IPFW, a founding member of HSD. “Hospitality programs must not only meet specific standards of excellence; their faculty and professional staff must also make a commitment to ongoing continuous improvement to ensure that the institution will continue to deliver the highest quality of education to students.”

John Niser came to IPFW in August of 2008. His professional experience started in international hotel management, giving him a solid practical operational knowledge of the field of hospitality management. He earned a doctoral degree focused on craft-based learning (Anglia Ruskin University, U.K.), and while living in Switzerland had the opportunity to work in a key position to develop the Swiss Hotel Association Hotel Management School Les Roches and was CEO of the prestigious Glion Institute of Higher Education, both institutions offering U.S. accredited degrees.

IPFW hospitality management students experience the diversity of the hospitality industry and the local community through a rigorous curriculum. Students enjoy employability and career successes along with tremendous resources for highly qualified talent to support their growth. Hotel Schools of Distinction represents a major partnership for the Purdue Hospitality Management degree program at IPFW.
