FORT WAYNE, Ind.—How does a university say thank you to the community that surrounds and supports it? By sponsoring the 2nd Annual BIG Event this Saturday, March 23, that’s how!
The BIG Event begins at 8 a.m. in the International Ballroom in Walb Student Union on the Indiana University–Purdue University (IPFW) campus. 900 volunteers have already signed up, and organizers are expecting another 150 to walk in Saturday morning. The volunteers will be working at 46 different not-for-profit agencies all over Fort Wayne.
At 8:45 a.m. the volunteers will be driven to the agencies they have chosen to help and will be brought back between 1:30 and 2:30 p.m., when they will celebrate a job well done with a victory party.
Chancellor Vicky Carwein is joining the volunteer force and will split her time between two agencies: the Dare to Dream Youth Ranch and the Fort Wayne Sexual Assault Treatment Center. Miss Indiana, Emily Hart, will also be volunteering at various agencies.
