IPFW and the Nation Celebrate Career Development Month
(Fort Wayne, October 21, 2009) -- As the nation celebrates Career Development Month in November, Indiana University–Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW) Career Services will host events to give their students and alumni assistance in the tough job market. The events will provide IPFW students and alumni with opportunities to network with employers and discover their career passion.
The six events scheduled throughout November include panels on careers related to the arts, sports and fitness, green initiatives, and entrepreneurship. There also will be networking opportunities such as “speed networking,” which is similar to speed dating, but focuses on career development rather than romance. And for an even more modern approach, Career Services will hold a seminar on how IPFW students and alumni can use social networking sites to advance their job prospects.
Nnenna Ezeilo, a senior biology student at IPFW, attended similar events during last year’s National Career Development Month. “The panel highlighted the importance of networking, acquiring contacts, and following up with contacts,” she said. “It’s important to be passionate and persistent with this process, because it’s not easy.”
For a calendar of events, visit www.ipfw.edu/career/news. The events are open to IPFW students and alumni only; members of the media are invited to cover them. For more information, contact Karen Obringer, career counselor in IPFW Career Services, at 260-481-0689 or obringek@ipfw.edu.
