Haas Technical Education Center Opens at IPFW
(Fort Wayne, June 17, 2009) -- Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne’s (IPFW’s) College of Engineering, Technology, and Computer Science (ETCS) formally opened the Haas Technical Education Center (HTEC) today (Wednesday, June 17, 2009). The center is located within the Center of Excellence for Industrial Innovation and Design (CIID) in the Engineering, Technology, and Computer Science Building and is currently comprised of four cutting-edge technology CNC (computer numerical control) machines.
The center will give students studying mechanical engineering and mechanical engineering technology actual hands-on experience in learning how to use the machines. The machines can also be used for the construction of prototypes and/or the fabrication of final designs in IPFW’s engineering and technology senior capstone project courses. The Division of Continuing Studies plans to use the HTEC for manufacturing management and other continuing education classes.
The CIID focuses on industrial research projects that allow IPFW students and faculty to work on cross-disciplinary teams to solve complex technical problems. The CIID is also dedicated to enhancing the economic development of northeast Indiana through these applied research initiatives. The HTEC will be closely aligned with CIID since many CIID projects have mechanical or manufacturing components for which the Haas machines can be used to produce prototypes or models.
