Chemistry and the Artist Palette…And Lunch to Please Your Palate!
(Fort Wayne, March 28, 2008) -- At the April Science Central Lunch with an IPFW Scientist, discover how artists such as Leonardo da Vinci and Pablo Picasso were also chemists and enjoy lunch to please your palate! Michael Columbia, Indiana University—Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW) associate professor of chemistry, will host "Chemistry and the Artist Palette" Saturday, April 12, at Science Central, 1950 N. Clinton, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The program is open to the public at a cost, which includes lunch, of $15 per person; $8 for Science Central members.
This session will showcase materials used by artists to bring color to their works of art and how chemistry accounts for those colors at the molecular level.
The Science Central Lunch with an IPFW Scientist Series is designed for families with young people ages 8 and up, and plants in both the young and most seasoned participant a budding interest in science. After each presentation, which includes a hands-on activity, participants enjoy lunch with the presenter.
Advance reservations are required, and families with young people ages 8 and up are welcome. For more information on the series, call Lou Papai, director of education at Science Central, at 260-424-2400 ext. 442.
