Creator of Space Elevator to Speak at IPFW
(Fort Wayne, March 21, 2008) -- Guest speaker Dr. Brad Edwards will present "Extreme Engineering: The Space Elevator" at the 5th Annual Opportunity Banquet sponsored by the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) at Indiana University—Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW). The banquet will be Friday, April 4, from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Walb Student Union Ballroom on the IPFW campus.
Dr. Edwards began the design and construction of the first space elevator. Recognized as the leader in this effort and the father of the modern space elevator, he has brought the concept from science fiction to the verge of reality.
For the past four years this popular engineering event has been generously supported by industry from Fort Wayne and surrounding communities. The evening creates an opportunity for corporations to meet IPFW engineering, technology, and computer science students, and allows students to mingle with potential employers. Beginning with an informal mixer in a job fair environment at 4:30 p.m., the dinner and program will follow at 6:30.
Between March 1-26, 2008, the cost is $120 per corporate partner.
For more information, or to register to attend the Opportunity Banquet, contact Elizabeth Thompson, associate professor of electrical engineering, at 260 481-6361.
